Why passions and hobbies are important in your life and for your wellbeing?

Passion is something all of us should have. It is necessary to feel alive and in touch with who you are. Where does passion come from? It comes from within you rather than outside of you. Sometimes you need to be courageous and take action on something that scares you. I learned to change my approach to fear as it has its protective purpose to ensure survival. Yes, fear keeps you safe in life-threatening situations. Fear has another side as it is like a message/signal. If you are able to connect with the message, you will understand it. Fear keeps you stuck, unhappy, empty, passionless, and “surviving.”  The mode of “survival” is the mode of operating from day to day without connecting with what makes you happy and grow. It feels like every day is the same and nothing excites you or brings you joy. No one wants to feel stuck in survival mode, life is about thriving. Fear can signal something you have been ignoring, especially if it often comes up. This step will force you to leave your comfort zone. Leaving the comfort zone can expose you to your unknown strengths, passions, and opportunities.

Pause and reflect:

What is a hobby or passion you would like to do or try? What is an area of interest you feel drawn to? Do I make time for joy and fun in my routine? When was the last time you engaged in an activity you enjoy?

How are hobbies and passion linked to health?

Hobbies and passions give you the opportunity to feel joy and happiness. Happiness and a sense of purpose fuel your body and mind like nutrients in your diet. I would like to call this vitamin P or vitamin pleasure. Pleasure is usually associated with external achievements. External achievements have their place in the equation of pleasure.

The Health formula:

Health (H)  =  Pleasure/ Passion(P) + Hobbies (H)

How can you add passions and hobbies to your life?

  • Do an activity that you would like to try

  • Learn musicalic instrument

  • Try a new art technique

  • Revisit an old hobby/passion you feel called to

  • anake a online course to learn something  you are interested in

  • Grab and read the book

  • Leave your comfort zone

  • Experiment  with ideas and concepts you feel drawn to

  • Connect with your younger version of yourself with an activity you enjoy

  • Try a new sport/ activity

  • Do whatever brings you joy and passion

To feel healthy from the inside out,  you need to fuel your body and mind with something that brings you joy and pleasure. For those of you unsure of what it is, give yourself the space and time to explore it. Once you know what is, find a way to implement it in your lifestyle. If you have a busy schedule, schedule "joy time" as a form of self-care to bring passion back in.   Remember life is more than surviving. I know it is easier said than done. If you feel lost, explore your desires. As a health coach, I am here to help you find a way to reach your health goals. We all need joy and pleasure to thrive and improve our overall health.
