Off plate nourishment : Primary food

We think that nourishment comes from food on our plate aka nutrition. Yet, you can eat a clean, plant-based diet yet live a high stress lifestyle. Chronic high stress has been linked to lifestyle-related diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer & other chronic diseases. Primary food refers to the ‘nutrients’ we consume through career, relationships, physical activity, spirituality & other areas of your life. A deficiency in one of these nutrients will result in an imbalance or stress in other areas of your life.

Deficiency causes an unhealthy relationship to food. An unhealthy relationship can be seen as chronic dieting, constant carvings, emotional eating & more. When you lack social connections & support in your social circle, it shows up in other ways. A lot times we suppress our emotions and it show up as insatiable hunger. The signs of imbalance in primary food can show up as physical, and emotional/ psychological symptoms. Physical symptoms can be irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, muscle aches & more. Emotional/psychological symptoms can make you feel irritable, anxious, emotionally drained, frustrated or unmotivated.

Some ways to bring balance to your primary food are:
